ah well, the more than touchy reaction was to be expected, it was silver after all. can’t a girl have a cute reunion with her friend without unintentionally offending them? apparently not.
the swatting from silver didn’t hurt too much but managed to make the brunette flinched at the curt yet sharp slap. she rubbed the top of her hand gently - half in jest, half serious - and pouted playfully. his words were mean but as if THAT was going to bring down kotone. instead, she giggled lightly at insults, brushing it off as the norm. she had suffered frequently from his biting words back home in johto and it had allowed her to grow thicker skin; besides, wasn’t that how all tsunderes showed affection?
"well, DUUUH, of course i’m smart enough! first of all, i was smart enough to kick your sorry butt on a daily basis back in johto," she stated, placing her hands on her hips in a matter-of-factly manner and a raised brow. "and, second, why do think my hat is so big?" leaning in ever so slightly towards the male, she cupped a hand next to her mouth and whispered: "it’s because my head is so full of knowledge." of course, that wasn’t true because even kotone knew herself she wasn’t the sharpest pencil in the box but she definitely was not stupid! however, she couldn’t help but burst into another giggle after whispering that to him.
"hey, lighten up! familiar faces in unfamiliar places are good, right? for all you know, i could have been here months before you have and know all the nooks and crannies of this school! … not that i do." but it would have been cool if she did. "but maybe you do! how long have you been here anyway, cranky pants? i only arrived the other week."
Despite irritated from the goddamn pleasant surprise (sarcasm, you see?), the hand swat was way gentler than one he would give to a stranger, so he quickly noticed she was just feigning pain by rubbing her hand. Silver didn’t care, though, merely shifting his gaze from her hand to her face. A cute reunion was out of limits, the chances of it happening one day being lower than that stupid Rattata boy from Johto’s strength level, for no matter how much the red-haired boy would get used to Kotone’s antics, she would always be one of the most annoying kids he’ll ever meet in his life.
He remained silent until she started to remind him of his losses back in Johto. Arceus, that was one of the things that pissed him off the most, and when she leaned in with a hand cupping the side of her mouth, Silver raised a leg to prevent her from coming too close.
“Shut up,” he scowled, flicking the brim of her white hat in an attempt to make her step back. "Your big hat only means you have a fucking horrible fashion sense. It’s stupid enough to make anyone think it’s going to float and drag you along to the outer space or whatever." Which wouldn’t be something bad at all. “It also makes you look like an idiot, but I suppose you already know that." After all, in all these years he was forced to endure her dumb behavior, the only thing he learned about his pigtailed rival was that she apparently enjoyed making herself look like an idiot. No— fix that, the idiot. Only losing to the other detestable, obnoxious raven-haired kid, of course. However, it was better Kotone than him, right?
The Trainer leaned against the wall, a long, bored sigh escaping his lips, scarlet hues locked on Kotone’s figure as he replied, “Same time." Silver kicked the air in front of him, hands resting in the depths of his pockets. Upon hearing the new nickname, a burgundy brow quirked in a questioning way, but he decided to ignore it.
“Not at all. Known faces are good when they are useful, but you are far from being at least pleasant.
Does that mean that other dumbass is also here? And what the hell did you do to get sent here? I didn’t know you were smart enough for that.”

you’re gonna go dancing and you’re gonna like it.
I’m gonna make Feraligatr eat your head, and you’re gonna love it.
Guess who’s going to dance like a pro.
Yeah, that’s right.
Not him. Dancing is for people like Kotone.
walking through the new school environment was a lot like venturing through the forests of johto; the whole place was almost maze-like and kotone wondered if she had actually fared better navigating through ilex forest back home. regardless, she remained defiant in actually locating the room her next class, creative writing, was in. too bad the brunette managed to lose herself somewhere on the sciences block, unbeknownst to her.
she pursed her lips in disappointment; come on, kotone! you’re the girl that single-handedly guided herself around an entire island! walking to your next class should be a breeze for you. she wasn’t letting herself give up, of course. according to her guidelines, if you were to follow that sort of negative mentality, you wouldn’t get anywhere in life and that just would not do. her hand tightened into a fist by her side and the once-pursed lips had now formed into a defiant smile. this is it, this is the face of a CHAMPION!
her moment of mentally encouraging herself (which may or may not have involved internally 90’s shoujo laughing to herself) was suddenly cut short at the flash of familiar red hair just a few paces away from her. it wasn’t just the colour that was familiar, but also the frankly odd style it was cut in; pointy at the top and flared ends. it definitely had to be him. how delightful! well, more for kotone, even she knew that herself. how coincidental that her FRIEND was attending the same mysterious school she herself was whisked away to. if he was there, she wondered if hibiki was attending the school also. a reunion between the trio would be super! stopping herself from calling out his name, her voice wavering into silence, she spent a few seconds wondering how to greet silver; if she were to call his name out, he’d get cranky and yell at her for embarrassing him (not that he’s ever not cranky with her) and it’s not exactly how she wanted to start their first meeting with each other since back in kanto. in the end, she decided to opt for the stealthy approach.
nimbly tip-toeing towards him, trying to be as sneaky as possible, kotone reached her arms out and quickly, yet gently, covered his eyes. then, clearing her throat and disguising her voice as best as she could (which bordered on the masculine side), she said:
Honestly, all this “school” business wasn’t as bad as he made it to be before accepting the invitation. The boy who would usually find enormous problems and reasons to irritate himself on the smallest things, wasn’t complaining much this time. From what he learned about schools before, this one hadn’t the bustling activity, although, in fact, there was some moving here and there. Aside from the busy school life and his classes he had to attend to, he found enough time to waste with anything he wanted to do.
Having spent his entire day wandering around, to gain knowledge about the academy and possibly avoiding future situations in which he could ask for someone’s help, soon Silver found himself bored and with nothing else to do. Not angry as usual, just plainly drowned in boredom. Leaning the side of his body against the nearest wall and shoving his hands deep into his pants’ pockets, he watched the slow movement of the environment. Some people passed by, accelerating their pace after facing the angry-looking redheaded boy.
It made him notice that, here, he didn’t have to deal with abusively cheery people invading his personal space. It was actually relieving to know that the sights of black and yellow striped cap or oversized mushroom hat were nowhere to be seen. Thinking about it, hah, he could live like that!—
These happy thoughts that could go on forever were abruptly interrupted as soft hands cupped Silver’s eyes, causing him to flinch almost instantaneously. Oh, he knew that sensation better than he would like to know, for many times this person would embrace and invade his personal space out of nowhere… it could only be her.
And he knew it. He just didn’t want to deal with the fact that no one less than Kotone was also here. Did it also mean that Hibiki was here, wasting oxygen like the fucking dumbass he is?
The teenager quickly turned back, swatting the other trainer’s hand away, as delicate as an angry elephant. It didn’t matter where he’d go, it seemed, Kotone would always find him, like she has a damn period hair detector or something like that. “Never touch me again—” Silver ordered in a rushed tone, taking few steps back to avoid being attacked again,
“— actually, never approach me again. Just what the fuck are you doing here? Do you even have a brain to score something at a test? What a joke.”
